It depends what we’re working on, but usually I create a mood board with general ideas on, and then work around them until I come up with a defined look. I try to define a target customer, and then design the collection around the target customer.

... Except for Sukie - it’s actually the stones that dictate the look of the collection, although I still follow the seasons colour palette. There are some rules.
